Loving Depression (the Blocks)

If you have been reading this blog, you know I love working with scraps. So when a group swap came up on Swap Bot that required the use of scraps in blocks, I was hooked. I started making the pattern from Quilter's Cache with my best scraps and a solid to use for the background.  These are my dream blocks.  HSTs chain pieced, hurray! I love thias block!  I finished my chores in record time every day for three days so I could get to making these 12 inch gems.

From really scrappy
 to more controlled

.

Which is your favorite?  I like the last one the best.  I just have to make more!

This block was first popular during the 1930s when times were tough, especially for quilters.  No rotary cutters, no quilt shops.  They had to cut up putgrown clothing and feedsacks for fabric.  We have it very good these days. I still take joy in using scraps.  Maybe because my dear grandmother taught me to save everything.  She survived the Great Depression so she valued fabric.

Today is link up day with BOMs Away. Visit Lyn and her other friends to see what they are up to. Also I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day.

Happy  Quilting!

Oh, cool. I love that top one. My favorite colors there. The 3rd one is super, too. Love the unexpected blue instead of white. :)

I love the third one. I really enjoy mixed up colors in scrappy quilts. That is why I make them. Found your blog on BOM's AWAY. Kathleen
